SUMMARY:Pavilion Ribbon Cutting @ The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center
DESCRIPTION:West Rutland\, Vermont\, July 2025 The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center has completed two new pavilions on its historic grounds in West Rutland last week\, with elegant and inspiring structures designed to provide an ideal outdoor\, sheltered environment for stone carving and metal working. The design of the two timber-frame pavilions\, informed by sun and shade studies\, herald the first major expansion of studio space in years integrating seamlessly with the site's existing stone and metal structures and landscaping.\n\n\n\nThe Carving Studio and Sculpture Center team worked closely with Scratch Builders of Williston\, Vermont this past fall to develop the designs for these two pavilions\, each about 800 square feet in size. Scratch Builders and their subcontractor\, White Falcon\, handled the excavation\, concrete work\, and erection of the timber frames.\n\n\n\nMotivated by a desire to provide a superior creative environment for artists\, previous Executive Director Carol Driscoll and the Board of Directors quickly identified the need for permanent work structures tailored specifically to the needs of each discipline. The project has been well over a year in the making and was made possible by gifts from longtime supporters of The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center's mission\, who collectively contributed more than $500\,000 for the capital improvement. The improvement to the campus supports a more comfortable working environment and extends the season for working outdoors.\n\n\n\nThe pavilions were largely constructed under the direction of now retired Executive Director Carol Driscoll and recently completed under the supervision of new Executive Director Noel Sinozich. The pavilions are now hosting stone and metalworking classes for enthusiasts and novices\, working alongside professional resident and commissioned artists. Please see the CSSC website for a schedule of classes.\n\n\n\nWe invite you to join us for our ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 12\, 2025\, at 2pm. Community members and the public are welcome to join us as we celebrate the next chapter at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center.\n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact: Noel Sinozich (nsinozich@carvingstudio.org)
