Andrew Frost is a photographer based in Burlington, VT. "Like Driving on an Ancient Road" is a collection of work from several different series, spanning over the course of a decade. The thematic thread running through his photographs are the exploration of the concept of place, whether it be coming back to Vermont where his family has lived for over two hundred years or longing for a connection after feeling like he was from nowhere and everywhere. Frost’s photographs ask us to question how we reconcile the idea of a place with the reality of actively living there. Living in Vermont, he knows that driving on an ancient road is treacherous: they are narrow, seldom a straight line, and might just be impassable. It takes care and caution, sometimes it goes quickly, and sometimes it goes very slowly. His work reflects this as he earnestly explores the balancing act between the world he imagined for so long, and the place that he finally has experienced.
