Join Southwestern Vermont Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TUSWVT) for a night in support of fisheries conservation. The non-profit organization will host a screening of the must-see fly fishing film, Chalk: Bedrock of Fly Fishing, at the Paramount Theater in Rutland on Thursday, June 13th. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., allowing moviegoers to mingle and taste some of the world’s best whiskey from sponsor, WhistlePig Whiskey, before the show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased online or on the day of the event. All proceeds from the event’s silent auction and sweepstakes will support the Moon Brook trout habitat restoration project. TUSWVT is currently working with the City of Rutland on a plan to restore Moon Brook and Mussey Brook, tributaries of the Otter Creek that flow through the municipality. If restored, these tributaries can improve fishing on Otter Creek and have the potential to become excellent urban fisheries and educational resources for Rutland-area residents. This includes the establishment of vegetated buffers, planting of canopy shade trees, planting of shrubs and bushes, dredging silt from the ponds, lowering water levels by two feet at both ponds, and dam modifications. The Southwestern Vermont Chapter of Trout Unlimited would like to thank its co-sponsors of the film screening: All Saints Anglican Church of Rutland (ASAC), Whistlepig Whiskey, and Orvis for collaborating on what is sure to be a fundraiser to remember. ASAC has been an instrumental partner in the Moon Brook restoration project and the planning of the Chalk event. Whistlepig has generously set up a special silent auction of a bottle of its six core whiskies, from the Boss Hog V to its new 6-Year Piggyback Rye (as well as other goodies), that will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the night of the event. Local icon Orvis has donated a new Helios 3 rod for the fundraiser’s on-line sweepstakes, which is currently open for bidding. While we wait for more Spring-like weather to send us more favorable fishing conditions, come to the Paramount on June 13th to talk fishing, conservation and place a bid for a good cause. The film features some of the most recognizable names and faces in the fly fishing world, including Marina Gibson, Alex Jardine, Steve Cullen, Glen Pointon and Charles Rangeley Wilson. The expert voices and thoughtful voiceovers complement the stunning cinematography, combining to tell the story of these precious waterways that have shaped a sport. And it’s a story that begins approximately 90,000 years ago with the first stages in the development of chalkstream habitat, but continues to the present as English anglers work to protect and conserve them. You will appreciate fishing your home river even more after watching. About Southwestern Vermont Chapter of Trout Unlimited: Trout Unlimited’s mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. Locally, in our southwestern corner of Vermont, we aim to do that at a grassroots level by organizing a community to get together and discuss the issues affecting our local fish habitats. We educate ourselves and the general public about trout conservation and act as a corps of volunteers when it comes to cleaning up our rivers and streams. We enjoy the dirty work of rolling up our sleeves, donning waders, and working with other groups for the betterment of our precious home waters. Last but not least, we provide a welcoming social outlet for anyone who wants to talk trout and angling or get out on the water.
