Grammy Award-winning tabla player Sandeep Das and renowned composer and sitarist Rajib Karmakar come together for an instrument demonstration and discussion on Indian music, history, and performance. Das and Karmakar are headlining the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “East Meets West” concert at The Paramount Theatre in Rutland on September 27, and this free workshop provides a rare opportunity to learn more about and hear from two internationally recognized masters of the sitar and tabla drums.
This event is hosted co-hosted by Vermont State University Castleton and is free of charge. Registration required.
The VSO’s September 27 concert at The Paramount Theatre features compositions by Ravi Shankar, Dinuk Wijeratne, and Das in the first half, with Mussorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the second half. Student tickets are $10, and general admission starts at $30 plus fees/taxes.
