Role Overview

The Source and Recruit Company has been retained to assist Belden Company in recruiting a results-driven Controller to join its growing team in Rutland, Vermont. This full-time leadership position plays a vital role in overseeing the company’s financial operations and ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment of all accounting activities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, a sharp analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to financial management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting functions with timeliness and accuracy
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and 401K requirements
• Manage banking operations across operating, payroll, savings, and investment accounts
• Prepare financial statements, cash flow projections, and balance reports
• Analyze project-specific job cost data and provide timely financial reporting
• Oversee job costing, change orders, cost projections, and monthly close processes
• Ensure timely filing of tax returns, sales tax reports, and regulatory filings
• Support multi-state tax compliance and subcontractor/vendor oversight
• Conduct regular reviews of financial reports to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities
• Contribute to strategic initiatives through financial forecasting, capital capacity planning, and cash flow analysis
• Assist external auditors and coordinate year-end audit processes
• Oversee insurance renewals, vehicle registrations, and benefit-related inquiries
• Process year-end W-2s and 1099s for employees and subcontractors

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in construction, development, or real estate accounting
• Proven experience in a Controller or similar leadership role
• Strong command of GAAP and general ledger accounting practices
• Proficiency in Sage and QuickBooks accounting systems
• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Strong analytical skills and ability to produce forward-looking financial reports
• Experience with insurance, payroll, benefits administration, and audit processes is a plus
