Vermont State University Castleton Men’s Hockey to Host 4th Annual
Breaking the Ice on Mental Health to Benefit Rutland Behavioral Health

Rutland, VT – On Friday, January 31, Vermont State University Castleton Men’s Hockey team will host the fourth annual Breaking the Ice on Mental Health event as they take on New England College in a 7pm game at Spartan Arena.

The Castleton Men’s Hockey team, led by head Coach, Kyle Richards, is made up of a diverse team of players from around the world who are establishing strong ties in our local region.

“As we head into our fourth annual game, the team appreciates the overwhelming support the event has received in and from the community, and we are proud to be hosting it again this year," said Richards. "Having a resource like Rutland Regional Medical Center in our back yard is invaluable and to be able to give back to the community is something that means a lot to our student-athletes and coaching staff.”

All proceeds from the event, including admission and an online auction for authentic Breaking the Ice jerseys, will benefit RRMC's Rutland Regional Behavioral Health. For the second year in a row, the team’s jerseys have been designed by VTSU Castleton men’s hockey player, Josef Vyvial. Josef is a Sophomore at Castleton, majoring in graphic design.

On January 31, the first 200 fans through the door will receive a custom tee shirt sponsored by Foley Services in Rutland. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase commemorative Breaking the Ice on Mental Health tee shirts and participate in a raffle and bake sale at the event. The cost of admission for the game is $7 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.

Rutland Regional Medical Center is grateful to the Castleton Men’s Hockey team for initiating this event to raise awareness and support for mental health services.
“Mental health conditions can impact anyone at any time. We are grateful to the Vermont State University Castleton men’s hockey team for organizing the Breaking the Ice event aimed at raising awareness about mental health services, and taking steps to improve quality of life”, said Sheila Sharrow, LICSW, Manager at the Rutland Regional Behavioral Health.
