Rutland Regional Medical Center Achieves
Fourth Magnet® Designation
Recognition for the fourth time reinforces a commitment to nursing excellence.
RUTLAND, VT— On May 26, 2026, Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) attained Magnet designation for the fourth consecutive time, which was officially announced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This redesignation is a testament to RRMC’s continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.
“Magnet designation reflects RRMC’s unwavering commitment to delivering innovative high-quality care and reinforces the progress we are making as an organization,” said Kelly Watson, RRMC’s Chief Nursing Officer. “The participation and support of all employees, providers, volunteers, and teams across the organization played an important role in upholding the hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement and exceptional patient-centered care.”
Research demonstrates that Magnet recognition provides specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as:
- Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information.
- Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates.
- Higher job satisfaction among nurses.
- Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions.
To achieve initial Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.
Over the past 18 months, RRMC has completed all aspects of the rigorous redesignation process, meeting required credentialing standards and the five Magnet components including: Transformational Leadership; Exemplary Professional Practice; New Knowledge, Innovation & Improvements; Structural Empowerment; and Empirical Outcomes.
RRMC received 8 exemplars throughout the review process. Exemplars are noteworthy elements of excellence in nursing practice seen during the review and survey process. RRMC’s exemplars centered around professional board certification rates, the role and utilization of the advanced practice registered nurses and outperforming several benchmarks in clinical quality indicators.
“The journey to Magnet designation is the result of multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation and a shared focus on great patient care,” said Judi Fox, President and CEO of RRMC. “These efforts reflect meaningful advancement in our strategic goals to deliver quality care and be an employer of choice. Together we are building a stronger culture while we continue to address the many challenges that are facing healthcare organizations today.”
